I hope you have
an alibi Mo,
because Crime
has come to town.
It seems that some clowns waltzed off with the doors,
seats, seatbelts, rearview mirror, clutch, ignition,
plastic chicken leg dashboard good luck charm, disco
hits of the 80s cd, Olivia Newton-John exercise video,
lock de-icer, carburetor, fan belt, timing chain, wheels,
spare change, peaceribbon
magnet, floormats, air conditioning, power locks,
windshield, unclaimed winning lottery tickets, Faberge
eggs, spare tire and Suntan Barbie with Beach Ensemble
that used to make up the bulk of Amy Johnquest's car.
The rest was towed from the crime scene.
So to cheer
her up, I googled, "Hang in there baby, Friday's coming!"
hoping I could find one of those cheesy old posters
with the kitten hanging from the branch to post here
for and while I found a dozen sites that longingly
reminisce about that poster, I could not find
an actual image.
So I had to use an image of the actual robberbarons.

The Watkins
Gallery, 142 Main Street, second floor, is showing
"Winter Whites" this month, featuring woodcut prints
by Joshua Rome. Rome's talent is well-established in
Japan where he has had more than 75 successful shows.
Gallery goers in New York and San Francisco, as well
as in Japan, have enjoyed his winter snow scenes.
The Oxbow Gallery, 275 Pleasant Street, shows
the work of Marion Miller, an artist whose themes range
from figural to landscapes.

A.P.E.
Gallery, Thorne's Market, third floor, will have
two offerings. The first show tells the story of the
hurt and power of both Caroline Lambert— "Hand Built
Books" and Jill Turner—"Video Performance Shorts." The
second A.P.E exhibition is "Where are We Going?" paintings
by Len Gerwick.
Alfredo's Gallery, 6 Crafts Avenue, continues
its show of black and white photography, "Moments in
New England and Beyond," by Robert Hallock, a University
of Massachusetts professor.
Northampton Center for the Arts, 17 New South
Street, third floor, fabric artist Belinda Lyons Zucker
presents "Grandmother: Images in Clay and Cloth."
This month's Arts Night Out coincides with the first
of the Center's three "World of Piano" jazz concerts.

MISSING HAWAIIAN
SHIRTS

A few of the hawaiian shirts lent out for attendee wearing pleasure
accidentally left the NCA January 13 and their owner/collecter
would love to be reunited with them.
If you woke up the next morning in a hawaiian shirt
and wondered if you bought it from a hawaiian shirt
street vendor, you didn't. It followed you home.
They do that.
Shirts can be returned to my studio or you can email
me and arrange for a clandestine drop-off and I will
reunite them with their rightful (mourning) owner.

GET ACQUAINTED
- FCCC AND GBA
Wednesday,
February 8, 6-8 pm

FCCC and the
GBA will host a "get acquainted" evening on Wednesday,
February 8, at the Pushkin Gallery, 332 Main Street
in Greenfield from 6-8 p.m.
Please use the Federal Street entrance. This is open
to all who consider themselves part of the Creative
Economy.
We are looking for artists, web designers, internet
businesses, etc.
In previous discussions, we have learned that many of
these individuals feel isolated and they expressed the
need to know and learn more about others in related
fields.
We would like to facilitate that in hopes that many
of them can bring business to each other, develop cooperative
projects and perhaps share space and services.
Light snacks (cheese and crackers and cookies) will
be provided and Donna Jenson will assist us in organizing
the evening. The format is not entirely designed, we
welcome your input.
It would be helpful to have RSVPs from those planning
to attend. We hope to see you there if the topics are
of interest to you. Respond to either of us - Ann

Vertical memory, icon of a landscape, symbol of a city,
habitat of illegality, historical architecture
Proposals due by May 1, 2006
In the fall of 2006, Exit Art will present The Building Show.
Buildings have become iconic figures of cities and countries,
as an homage to the vertical icons that surround us, we are
asking artists to choose any building in the world and to
respond to it by making a conceptual, realistic, personal,
intimate or analytical portrait of that structure. Our personal
relationship to buildings is at the crux of this exhibition.
These architectural wonders are loved or despised by their
neighbors. Oftentimes buildings serve as a symbol of a city
or have deeply rooted historical significance, they form skylines
that are embedded into our vertical memory. Other times buildings
are surrounded by controversy, neighborhoods are rezoned,
gentrification causes displacement, and old buildings are
torn down and quickly rebuilt for new uses. For The Building
Show, we want artists to respond to the love / hate relationship
they have to these important structures. Artists can choose
any building in the world, but the building needs to physically
exist today.
How to Apply
Proposals may be for work in any medium. Please submit a one
page description of your project idea: a sketch of the proposed
project; a resume; and documentation of your previous work
(10-20 slides or images on CD, please send images at lowest
resolution so they open quickly, or a 3-5 minute NTSC VHS
video or DVD). Please include a self addressed stamped envelope
for the return of your work. You will be notified by email
of your involvement in the exhibition so please include an
email address with your materials. Exit Art is not responsible
for returning works submitted with out a SASE.

Basically, I'm trying to get a million people to sign a petition
to stop Japanese whaling.
I've created a petition website plus free online game (Whales
Revenge) here: click it please.
If you could forward this email to everyone in your contact
lists, that would be a great help.
Aside from getting more attention to the issue, we want to
see how quickly an idea that starts with one person can spread
through the Internet (e.g. is it possible to get a million
people to sign-up?)
I'm too dumb to do the maths, but I figure if everyone gets
it out to at least another 5 people, we might be able to do
it.
I think it's worth a go and it's a good cause.
